The exhibition was installed inside the particularly fascinating spaces of the Gallery of Plaster Casts at the Florentine Art Institute. Thus a dual relationship was created with the plaster reproductions in the hall, a tension between the chromatic contrast of the new structures made in absolute black and the same white as the plasters as well as the elective affinities and theme of Mario Botta's architecture.

The masterpieces reproduced in plaster dialogued with the large black and white photographs as well as with the Swiss artist's spontaneous sketches in white chalk and black graphite.

The low sloping, almost “suspended”, bases that supported the drawings allowed a constant and reciprocal visual relationship with the plaster works.

Outdoors in the front garden, a black footbridge was situated on the drive historically used for carriage access to the Royal Stables, thus pointing the most direct way to follow the exhibition itinerary.

The installation structures were designed to be dismantled and re-used for future exhibitions at the art institute.

Mario Botta's show titled "Architectures of the Sacred – Prayers of Stone” was also presented at the  RIBA Gallery in London from November 23, 2005 to January 2006.
