SETTEMBER 11, 2001

(Chronology of a late summer morning)

8.45 a.m.

Boeing 767 (flight AA11) crashes into the 80° plane of the north tower of the World Trade Center.

9.03 am.

18 minutes after the first collision another Boeing 767 (flight UA175) crashes into the south tower of the World Trade Center at the height of about the 47th floor

10.05 am.

One hour after the crash, the south tower of the World Trade Center collapses.

10.28 am.

The north tower, the first one to be hit, also collapses.

One year later, while walking through the streets of downtown Prato and looking at the shadow that a building cast on the pavement, I found myself wondering “whatever became of the shadow of the World Trade Center”, which I had observed one year ago?... "

This is how this project originated.

The children of the Cironi - Mazzoni School district observed September 11th, 2001 at  8,45 am. ( New York City local time), marking the hour when the first jet crashed into the first World Trade Center tower.

On a sunny day the shadow of Prato's buildings casts a continuous line of shade on the city's pavement, marking the time as if it were a large urban sundial that separates the light from the shade.

The children used white chalk to draw this line to commemorate and make others recall this event.

The bell in the Palazzo Pretorio tower rang 2823 times to recall the victims of September 11th.
