The Cassero is an
ancient medieval
fortification that ran
between the civic walls
of the city and the
Castello dell'Imperatore,
a strategic center
located in the heart of
the Prato.
The construction of the
Cassero began in 1351
with the aim of making a
raised pathway needed to
provide military
provisions to the
Florentines who had
occupied Prato.
For the presentation of
the Cassero's
restoration, the
Municipality organized
an exhibition of public
works created by the
Public Building
Department, whose
sectors dealing with
school/sport/social/cemetery
construction had been
directed by Marco Meozzi
from 1978 to 2000. Mario
Botta participated in
the show and was present
for the inauguration.
