As an addition to a primary school originally built in 1984, the new building was designed to be constructed in lighter materials such as steel and glass to place an increased emphasis on the exterior of the building in contrast to the heavier brick facades of the existing buildings.  Access to the building is through a long pedestrian arcade covered with an aluminum ‘brise-soleil’. The large windows allow greater visual access to internal activities from the outside in order to convey the impression of a large open space. The locker rooms, however, are enclosed in a concrete monolith providing a contrasting imagery of both solid and void.
