The competition required
the realization of two
halls for 1500 and 2800
seats.The large gallery,
completely glassed-in
and rising 16 meters,
constitutes the main
distributive axis with
many functions; it
creates a vast space for
interaction, a real
‘piazza’, raised and
overlooking the city
below.
The spaces are modulated
in keeping with the
neighboring city-block
typology.
In
order to restore the
original rectangular
configuration to the
Place de la Bastille,
the project called for
two orthogonal end
walls, similar to a
viaduct. It also foresaw
the direct connection of
these elements with the
nearby basin of water,
in the exploraton of a
new spatiality.
Access to the building
is via an amphitheater
set of steps that
descend into the
underground area.
