The project called for the
extension of a small
building housing the
municpal technical offices.
A twin building, of more or
less the same size and
volume, was to be built up
against the pre-existing
one.
The project wanted to
characterize the work and
make it more recognizable by
highlighting the diversity
between the two. The
differences consisted of:
-
orientation: there was a
rotation of 45° with respect
to the pre-existing
building.
-
materials: the new building
would have been built in a
metallic structure as
opposed to the existing
one's use of cement.
-
the building's surface or
'skin': there was to be an
external facing in strongly
colored alucobond to create
a discontinuity with the
plaster of the pre-existing
building.
-
the windows: the new
structure would have had
round “port holes” quite
different from the existing
rectangular ones.
Large windows in aluminium
and transparent glass form
the “umbelical chord”
joining the twin buildings.
On
the ground floor there was
to be a covered patio.
The building has not been
built.
